European Design and Engineering Center (E-DEC)

Innovative development and technology center

In 2012 SUMITOMO ELECTRIC Hartmetall GmbH established the innovative European Design and Engineering Center (E-DEC) located in Lauchheim, Germany. This investment created 2,000 square meters of presentation, training, and meeting rooms to present theory-based trainings and practical machinery presentations.

Latest technologies enable demonstrations of tools and systems in action. Work pieces can be machined, the production processes can be optimized and together the acquired expertise can be evaluated and confirmed directly on the machines in the presentation center. Our customers receive the complete solution, which they can subsequently transfer to their own production.

Since its foundation in May 1989, SUMITOMO ELECTRIC Hartmetallfabrik GmbH has been based in Lauchheim on Industriestraße 2. An associated production is located at Jihlava, Czech Republic.

As a member of the affiliated group of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Japan, the company has developed into a first-class and strongly innovative partner on the market for high precision tools for machining production. Alongside the production of these complex tools, the focus of the company's activities is on the development of customised solutions for all machining requirements. As a result of the company's success, the production capacity has been expanded several times since the foundation of the company. In 2012, the production facilities were supplemented by a Technology and Development Centre (E-DEC), which is operated together with the parent company, SUMITOMO ELECTRIC Hartmetall GmbH based in Willich in the Rhineland.

Right on time for the 25th company anniversary in December 2014, together with its shareholders, Sumitomo Electric Hartmetallfabrik GmbH has decided to again supplement the production capacity through the construction of an extension and the creation of new office and social space. The decision to build the extension can, on the other hand, also certainly be seen as a commitment to the production location Lauchheim.
