GDX indexable insert drill

The GDX is charac­terized by its excep­tionally long ser­vice life, which is due to inno­vative techno­logies and a well-thought-out de­sign.

Advanced coating technology
HiPIMS coa­ting en­ables layer thick­nesses of up to 10μm, which signi­fi­cantly in­creases tool life com­pared to con­ven­tio­nal 4μm coa­tings. The thicker coa­ting pro­vides better pro­tection against wear and in­crea­ses the heat re­sis­tance of the cutting edges.

Improved chip control
Due to the en­larged chip pock­ets and the smooth flute in combi­nation with a chip con­trol of two chip brea­kers for in­side and out­side, the pro­cess can be a­dap­ted to the ma­te­rial in the best possible way and coun­ter­acted the end of ser­vice life by means of va­rious sub­strates and coa­tings. Im­proved chip con­trol re­duces stress on the cutting ed­ges and helps to ex­tend tool life. The base body of the GDX drill is made of a high-qua­lity steel that en­sures ex­cep­tio­nal heat re­sis­tance and ri­gi­dity, and it is also trea­ted with a black oxide layer to also ex­tend the life of the hol­der.

By com­bi­ning these ad­vanced techno­logies and de­sign fea­tures, the GDX in­sert drill offers an ex­cep­tion­ally long ser­vice life.

The MDA drill bit series offers out­stan­ding per­for­mance and dura­bility thanks to its inno­vative fea­tures. In the following, the most im­por­tant as­pects of the ex­ten­ded ser­vice life due to the spe­cial DLC coa­ting are high­lighted.

What is DLC coating?

The DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coa­ting is a dia­mond-like car­bon layer.

Re­duced ad­hesion: The smooth sur­face of the DLC coa­ting mini­mizes the ad­he­sion of ma­terials such as alu­mi­num to the cutting edge. This en­sures an even cut and fewer inter­rup­tions.

High Hard­ness: The dia­mond-like struc­ture gives the drill bit ex­cep­tional wear re­sis­tance.

Low friction: The low fric­tion co­effi­cient re­du­ces heat gene­ration du­ring drilling and pro­tects the tool from ther­mal da­mage.
